Mike Chase

Michael developed mask, mime and voice through an eclectic international education in England, Bali and Italy. He has taught and directed physical theatre, mime and mask at drama colleges and universities for over 30 years. He established The Mask Studio in the mid 90’s to develop masks for training, education, performance and therapy which are used internationally by theatres and theatre companies including the RSC, at the National Theatre, by LAMDA, Trestle theatre, Welch National Opera and Told by an Idiot. He was the Artistic Director of the Glasshouse Art Centre for 15 years; where he also developed the application of masks in Hero’s Journey a therapeutic programme for young adults with complex needs.

Mike established The Mask Studio in the mid 90’s and developed masks for training, education, performance and therapy. He has taught in these fields internationally for 35 years. He was the Artistic Director of The Mask Academy and the Glasshouse Arts Centre, Stourbridge for 14 years. He has contributed to the Biographical Counselling training over 20 years as an external trainer, and has conducted self-development workshops around the world over the past 30 years. For 14 years he created the Hero’s Journey programme for students at the Glasshouse College using masks and psychodrama. Mike currently works within a therapeutic community prison HMP Grendon using psychodrama and group psychotherapy. His book Mask was published by Hawthorn Press in 2017, and is in the process of writing a book on the Seven Planets. Mike has a diploma in psychodrama psychotherapy and an M.Ed. in educational research and is a fully insured member of UKCP, undergoes supervision and abides by the UKCP Ethics for Practice. Mike has just directed The Souls Awaken, a mystery drama by Rudolf Steiner, in Stroud, UK.
