M I K E  C H A S E

Mike Chase

Mike developed mask, mime and voice through an eclectic international education in England, Bali and Italy. He has taught and directed physical theatre, mime and mask at drama colleges and universities for over 30 years. He established The Mask Studio in the mid-90s to develop masks for training, education, performance, and therapy, which are used internationally by theatres and theatre companies, including the RSC, the National Theatre, LAMDA, Trestle Theatre, Welsh National Opera, and Told by an Idiot. He was the Artistic Director of the Glasshouse Arts Centre (a Ruskin Mill Special Educational needs College) for 15 years, during which he developed the use of masks in a specialised therapeutic programme for young adults with complex needs. More recently, he worked at HMP Grendon, a therapeutic community prison, using Psychodrama and group psychotherapy prior to going on to manage a specialist wing of neurodiverse residents.

His book Mask was published by Hawthorn Press in 2017, and Karma Drama has been recently published by Embodied Cosmos Press in 2025. Mike continues to teach internationally and extensively on many themes relating to personal development, education and adult learning.

Mike holds a diploma in psychodrama psychotherapy and an M.Ed. in educational research, is a fully insured member of UKCP, undergoes supervision, and abides by the UKCP Ethics for Practice.

Festivals include  Resonance, the Stourbridge Performing Arts Festival for which he received the Stourbridge Artist of the Year Award;  and the International Mask Festival - 2007
