T E M P E R A M E N T S

Four Temperaments inspired by the four elements, Shakespearian descriptions of the ‘four humours’, and the archetypes as defined by Rudolf Steiner. These are used in actor training in conjunction with the neutral mask and planets, and also training teachers and therapists in observing subtleties of the human being.  These are in both full and half masks.

• Choleric is the temperament associated with the heart, burning with the element of fire and driving the will into action.
• Sanguine is connected to the nervous system. Light and peripheral, it is associated with humour and the element of air.
• Phlegmatic links to the movement of water in the body. It is associated with digestion and is still and calm.
• Melancholic is the temperament associated with the earth, connecting to the bones, with a deep and meaningful demeanour.
